The Scores

Who is winning in the Chip Ratings?

In an effort to provide another drop of statistically meaningless information to the fire hose that is Internet, I've averaged the scores for all those chipsters who have four or more varieties that I've rated.

1. Pringles - 3.7

Much to Cindy's dismay, Pringles takes the top slot. While the chips themselves may be considered the "processed cheese food" of the snack industry, they've come up with some fun and authentic flavors. Their top rated chip is the Buffalo Ranch - which I buy almost as fast as my kids can eat.

2. Lay's - 3.4

These folks essentially started this whole mess with their "Do Me a Flavor" ad campaign. Lay's has an amazing team of flavor wizards locked up in a lab somewhere, and while they've come up with a couple of real stinkers they also have given us some winners like Southwestern Queso and Crispy Taco.

3. Kettle Brand - 3.2

In spite of Kettle Brand's rather generic sounding name, their chips show an impressive amount of creativity. Even the horrible misstep of Tropical Salsa can't erase the win of flavors like Buffalo Bleu and Korean Barbeque.

4. Walkers - 3.0

While hard to find here in the US, Walkers makes chips (or rather, crisps) in flavors that are both unique and disturbingly accurate. Their Tomato Ketchup chips taste exactly like you'd expect.

5. Tayto - 2.8

You would think an Irish company would have an easy time making great potato chips, but sadly it isn't so. Still, they've come up with at least one winner of a flavor with their Wuster Sauce chips.

That's all the average scores for now - stay tuned to this page for updates!
